On the 8th of November 2024, a remarkable evening with Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States of America., and Nobel Prize winner for peace, which I had the pleasure and honor to moderate at CERN Science Gateway.
Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2007, jointly with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), for his pioneering work to put the climate crisis on the political agenda and create awareness worldwide that action has to be taken to meet this global challenge.
His presentation began an inspiring introduction to a debate with CERN Director-General Fabiola Gianotti and other panellists on the role and responsibility of science in offering solutions to global challenges. These panellists included:
- Rebeca Grynspan, Secretary General of the UN Trade and Development organization (UNCTAD)
- Joeri Rogelj, Director of Research at the Grantham Institute and Professor of Climate Science & Policy at the Centre for Environmental Policy, Imperial College London
- Benoit Delille, CERN, Head of the Health, Safety and Environmental Protection Unit

The event was attended by about 1000 people. Here a selection of images:
